Basketball in St. Brendan’s College has been a popular sport for many years.  Each year students compete in the Basketball Ireland Schools’ League competition at Senior (U-19), Cadette (U-16) and Junior (1st & 2nd year) levels.  The U-19 and U-16 league competitions run from September to December while the 1st and 2nd year’s leagues run from January to May.

Boys Basketball in St. Brendan’s College has brought the sport to new found heights and success with our 1st year boys’ team winning the Connaught Development League Title in 2013-2014. Due to their dedication and commitment St. Brendan’s College under-16 Boys have currently reached the All Ireland semi-final in The All-Ireland Schools Cup Competition, which will be played in December 2014. To date this team have been victorious against teams from Co. Sligo, Co. Galway & Co. Meath.

St Brendan’s basketball teams have also experienced huge success in the Schools League competition in recent years. These include Mayo and Connaught titles, competing against such schools as St. Tiernan’s College, Crossmolina, St. Patricks College, Lacken Cross, St. Joseph’s College, Charlestown, Davitt College, Castlebar and various Co. Galway, Co. Sligo and Co. Roscommon schools in the provincial title games.

The Basketball training season commences in September for all teams. There are weekly training sessions during lunchtimes and after school in the school gym. These sessions cater for all levels of ability from beginners to the more experienced player.  Playing school basketball is a great way to build friendships, maintain a good level of fitness and take a well- deserved break from academic study.  Training sessions for the school year 2014 – 2015 will take place at the following times:
