About us
The Principal, Board of Management and staff of St. Brendan's College would like to welcome you to our new website. There are very exciting times ahead for our current students and the students who enroll in this school as we will now have the biggest and most up to date school building in Co. Mayo. Our long awaited extension is now finished. There is much more space for the students and all the most modern facilities are on hand.
We hope that this website will give you an insight into what our school can do for you. As a student of St. Brendan's College you will be part of a vibrant school community which is well supported by the various educational initiatives, including D.E.I.S., School Completion Programme, Junior Cert Schools Programme, Home School Community Liaison, School Meals Project, Foróige's Big Brother, Big Sister mentoring programme and Learning Support.
In our modern school we have a modern approach to education and we are keen to listen to the needs of students, parents and the community. Our subject range is second to none and we expect high standards of achievement and behaviour from our students. In return we guarantee to work very hard on your behalf.
In 2009 our students achieved very highly with 87% of the students progressing to third level. This is a very significant achievement underlining the fact that quality of education in Erris leaves nothing to be desired. This high level of quality education will continue into the future and we have no doubt that it will improve even further in the future. Our Guidance service is open to students and parents. Our counsellor will be on hand to answer queries regarding subjects and career paths. We urge prospective students to seriously consider their choice of subjects in first year.
Our school has doubled in size during the last year and our facilities are second to none. Our new Sports Hall is one of the best in the country and we will have Physical Education on the curriculum for all students in September. A comprehensive PE programme is in operation and in addition the Hall is used during lunch time to run football, basketball and other leagues. Training also continues for our Gaelic Football, Soccer and Basketball teams at lunchtime also.
We hope that this website will give you an insight into the courses on offer in the school and the additional extracurricular activities in which we engage. However, we continually upgrade and enhance the provisions for our students and we seek to provide the students with the best educational experience possible.
We look forward to bright times ahead with the continued support of the Erris community.
Yours faithfully,
Sabina Munnelly, Principal
