St. Brendan’s College New Sports Hall will open in September 2009

This new establishment will cater for a full range of sport and recreational activities as St. Brendan’s can now offer all of it’s students a full and varied Physical Education Programme.

The sports hall itself is set up to allow for many different activities with floor markings provided for: Indoor soccer, Basketball (including electronic basketball rings and score board), netball, volleyball, badminton (4 courts) and Olympic handball.

In addition to these activities, this facility also has a fully equipped gymnasium, housing cardio-vascular machines such as treadmills, bikes, steppers, rowers and elliptical trainers. The gym also has numerous resistance machines which work all the major muscles allowing for a total body workout.

To compliment the new sports building St. Brendan’s have also put a lot of effort into their outdoor sports facilities and the school can now boast of having three newly built outdoor basketball and tennis courts.

In order to be able to offer each of the seven strands of the Junior Cert. Physical Education Curriculum (JCPE) Mayo VEC are currently working with some outdoor education personnel in G.M.I.T and are making maps of all Mayo V.E.C schools and their grounds. This will therefore enable orienteering to be taught as part of the new Physical Education Programme in St. Brendan’s College.
