In St. Brendan's we recognise that making the move from Primary to Secondary level is one of the biggest steps that young people will have to make. To facilitate this, we provide a Transfer Programme from Primary to second Level. The elements of this programme are :
- Visit by Principal and Deputy Principal to each National School
- Open Day when each 6th class student visits the school and gets the opportunity to experience school life together with subjects on offer.
- Enrolment evening where guidance is given on subject choice.
- Assessments of incoming first year students in April / May to determine their support needs (if any).
- Special Day of Induction at the start of the new school year in late August / Early September.
- Mentoring system whereby each 1st year student is mentored by a senior student from his/her area.
- Parents of students who would benefit from Learning Support are contacted early in the new school year and parents are invited to the school to discuss their child's Education Plan.
- Parent - teacher meetings are held during the year.
- First year students are surveyed later in the year to evaluate their needs, likes and dislikes in an attempt to continuously upgrade the induction process.
